  1. About 5” OTG here. That was my first measurement so storm total likely around 6”. “Storm” snow falling now - low grey sky, good flake size and intensity.
  2. Flipped to snow here about 30 minutes ago. Decent flake size, not overly wet. Current temp 32 deg, if we can get the temp to hold here or drop a tick we should be able to accumulate decently on the Niagara Frontier during the day. These retro lows to our northeast have a history of overproducing at BUF and points north, so wouldn't surprise me to hit the high end or even exceed current forecast.
  3. Wow, that’s a great look. Kind of a spread the wealth synoptic/lake enhancement setup. Localized snow screw jobs aside, this has been a pretty incredible stretch of late fall/early winter weather. Even IMBY where accumulations have been light, snow has been in the air more frequently than I can remember for any previous November.
  4. OT, but Sabres keep this sh$&%^t up please. I’ll take 20” seasonal total at BUF for playoffs!!
  5. That would be a new one in my years of weather watching. A low that retrogrades from the EC all the way back to Upper GL’s with enough cold air back in front of the low for a SW flow lake effect event. I suppose it’s possible if blocking is strong enough, but color me highly skeptical at this point.
  6. This game is insane!!! So was the Sabres game! Crazy sports night.
  7. Trying so hard to snow here. Big flakes battling with viscous little pingers for supremacy.
  8. Sleet here for the last 30 minutes, but now a flip to freezing rain or maybe plain rain.
  9. Congrats to all who picked up some snow so far this week. This is the time of year I knew I would be second guessing our recent move. We moved from the Cheek/Amherst border, west of the airport, to a couple miles north to Snyder. Probably lost about 10" of seasonal accumulation in just that amount of move! It was definitely a consideration to move south to get into the snow belt, but at the end of the day I couldn't justify the extra commute time for both me and my wife. It's also a much easier decision in the summer when my thoughts are squarely on sun, paddle boarding, and golf...not lake effect snow. All good though - love the house and the neighborhood. I'll just have to keep honing my chasing skills!
  10. Normally hang onto our leaves a couple weeks later here. Guessing it’s warming influence of the lake. Pay for it in the spring though with a bit later leaf out when lake keeps us cooler. Snow is falling pretty good here with a nice coating on shrubs and rooftops.
  11. Sitting at 85 deg at BUF with sun about to set. Unreal.
  12. Can the mighty lake shadow finally be defeated?? That’s a stout line of storms!
  13. Thanks man. If we ever leave WNY it will be to move closer to our place on Chaumont. 3.5 hours is a bit long to make it every weekend in the summer, so we average about 5 trips. Harder to leave every time though. We make the 15 minute drive to Cape Vincent/Clayton often. I’ve started hiking on Wellsley Island the last couple years. Views of the St Lawerence river from some of the ridges on the island are unbelievable. And the weather along the St Lawerence is so changeable. Storms drive in from Canada in the blink of an eye.
  14. View from our cottage this afternoon looking out on Chaumont Bay. Thunderheads associated with a storm over Oswego County barely visible on the horizon.
  15. Radar has been impressive in and around Rochester for the last few hours. Looks like some 4"+ amounts possible. 16. The lake shadow has been working overtime all summer. I would have thought the water temps were warm enough by now to limit its influence, but yesterday was another great example of precip being dried up NE of L Erie and enhanced to the SE.
  17. Every day at BUF since Mar 1 has had a high temp below 40 deg (and Mar 1 was only 40 on the dot). Guessing this is some sort of record for March, when we usually have big temp swings at least once every 5-10 days. On the big plus side, I don't remember such a long stretch of mostly clear skies. The sun is great, but the air has been biting.
  18. Congrats out there guys. The radar from northern NY all the way down to Bing was fun to watch all day. I imagine much more fun being underneath it. Just a few inches here the last couple days. I’m still very impressed though by how this snow pack near BUF has held tough since our big storm going on 2 weeks back now.
  19. Curious what the snow cover stats show for this winter at BUF. We had the early start in December and it seemed like every time we warmed up, a good shot of snow followed on its heels. Except for that week or 2 in February where we torched, it seems like there's been a constant snow pack even at lower elevations around BUF.
  20. I'm right there with you...It looks like the super duper strat warming, historic neg NAO, or whatever mischief happened up in the arctic is doing the trick to keep winter holding on at our latitude though. All I see on the long range models are days and days of cool/cold northwest flow, interrupted briefly by some stale and damp PAC air. So March could be a long drudge on the path to spring...
  21. Surprised to see this...shaping up to be a nice event south of BUF.
