I was just in my greenhouse checking on my tomato, pepper, and cannabis plants. I was surprised at how strong the wind is ripping. It must be the new leaves on the trees because it sounds almost sketchy windy.
yeah it's got that feel tonight

My rule for that is Mt. Airy North Carolina to DC metro in 4-5 hours.
sounds about right

Don't look no, but everyone west of I-81 was just put in a 5% tornado risk overnight.
some nasty storms coming out of NC.

It's wild how we go from the same weather for 6 months straight (40's and low 50's) to basically summer, overnight. When I was a kid, 35 years ago we had four seasons. Now we have two. Fall and summer.
yep - this is what you'd expect in some place like SC or southern GA.

I’m okay with NC State beating Duke. They can go no further though.
as a UVA grad of my generation, our rivalry is
VT > Duke > UNC > everyone else
and you’d make a compelling argument to stick JMU in the mix if we could play them more… think it would be good to get them in the commonwealth clash mix somehow.Yeah this checks out - used to be Maryland until those jerks abandoned us. I honestly can root for almost any other ACC team, but VT and Duke are tough. I'll only pull for them if it's against and SEC team or they are basically the last ACC team left standing. I'll be pulling for NC State against Purdue - but I still think everyone is just lining up for the chance to get crushed by UConn.

Can’t root for NC State since UVA should’ve put them away in the ACC tourney… rooting for the most boring outcome (UConn)
ah my young friend - even though that happened, you can NEVER root for Dook (unless they are playing an SEC team).

Just another spring in DC. Sigh.
the only positive is knowing it's even worse in NY and Boston.

UCONN is in another league. Dominant.
it's fun to watch all these teams play close games just to earn a chance to get blown out by UConn by 30.

As mentioned before here and in the article, the decrease in nights with freezing temps is just astounding. 32 such nights this year and 36 last year - I mean that's less than 1/3 of nights all winter seeing freezing temps and a two year total that's closer to what we'd expect in ONE winter.

“DC's winter climate is becoming SO WEAK.
Consider:
* 7 of last 8 winters have seen below normal snowfall
* 8 of last 9 winters have seen above normal temps
* Snowfall totaled over last 5-, 10-, 20- and 30-year periods is least on record.”—-from CWG today
yeah, a pretty sobering read from Ian today: https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2024/03/26/dc-snow-freeze-trends-climate-winter/

Evidently the cargo ship issued a "mayday," which was relayed to the bridge authority, allowing it to stop vehicular traffic and preventing a potentially greater loss of life. That's from the news conference they held.
that saved countless lives no doubt

we stayed above freezing here - 34.5. Yesterday morning was probably the last 32 or below day of the season for us.
