Still no power. As always. I moved to some pocket of the county where every time there’s even a slightly elevated risk for wind we immediately turn into Little House on the Prairie.

no eta for restoration yet . 255 customers in my cluster getting ready to join Charles Ingalls in heading off to Mankato to look for work.

    sorry my friend. :(

Text from bge says I am without power. Plenty of power in middle of towson tho thankfully. Clean sweep round 1 trivia questions.

It went out again for a minute. Rain almost done here, still pretty gusty though. Congrats on trivia!

Y'all are at that stage (e.g., the oh-dark-thirty, after school and weekend sports and other extracurricular activities for the kids!) that my family was at about 10-12 years ago. But it also sounds like you're each smart enough to enjoy the rare weeknight off...even if it's due to weather...which is great. Sometimes you need that little slice of downtime as a family. So glad to read this...and soak it up tonight. :)

Yep...same here, and we rarely get flickering lights. Just a tad worried from the sump pump standpoint...but on the plus side, all of the cell phones in the house are charged up!  :D

Thank you! It’s been a nice treat, especially since Tuesdays is her late night where we wouldn’t be home until after 9. I’ll take an unexpected free evening!

Definitely in my Top 5. Maybe Top 3.

Kid was fuming and yelling at me...and she's the pretty level-headed and chill one. She slammed the door and stomped into the house while I was trying to tell her that I'll find the phone number for the school superintendent so she can make a complaint.

lolol love it. Meanwhile my 5th grader came home early, cheering to a night off from dance. She did her homework, then crafts while I finished up my work day. We made dinner together and got to sit and eat without rushing out the door. It’s been wonderful.

Definitely getting "stormier" now. Took a (wet) walk outside down to where the TV tower along Wisconsin Ave. is, and I can hear the dull roar of the wind as it passes through the top (around 700 feet up). But not really that windy at the surface (yet?). Always a good way to guesstimate what kind of wind energy is above ground level, I suppose.

They are also expecting 6-7 foot tides with 5-6 foot waves from the south at Aberdeen. Likely they will have roads covered and/or washed out with this storm.

yeah, high tides will cause major flooding with the fetch straight up the bay.

Closing early for this, except for perhaps the counties along the bay, is so dumb, but IF you are going to close, I totally agree that you have to do it the night before. Nothing changed between last night and this morning. I work from home so I am fortunate that it doesn't really impact me and I can easily get my kids from the bus, but many parents are not that fortunate and this is a huge headache for them. At least let them be able to plan ahead for said huge headache.

I really wish I knew the clowns in charge of these decisions.

here you go, plenty of numbers you can call and people to yell at

If this were a landfalling tropical storm or hurricane I would totally not have said anything, I guess my confusion stems from the fact that, and I am pretty positive about this, there have been literally at least several dozen or more high wind warning days unrelated to landfalling systems since I moved to the Baltimore area in 2009 and I do not remotely recall this kind of response to any of those other days. It is just...befuddling, that's all. I don't begrudge anyone leaving school early. Hell, I am pretty sure I just authorized closing our office at 2:30. But...it is still confusing to me, I guess.

I think its multiple things. MD has closed schools before for storms, there was one in March a few years ago. So its not totally unprecedented. But when some counties started going early dismissals yesterday, the others followed suite.

Meanwhile, I am hoping we close the studio tonight because honestly I do not want to be driving in that mess in the dark later. But thats just me.

Just for fun, the wind accumulation product from Windy provides the peak modeled wind gust.  Let's see how they do at DCA:

    NAM 3k (06z):  57mph

    HRRR (13z):  60mph (!)

    GFS (06z):  63mph

    Euro (06z):  49mph

    ICON (06z):  54mph

HRRR has 50mph gusts 8pm up my way. Yikes.

Dear lord, I am turning into @mattie g in real time. It's windy RAIN for petesake.

I can understand counties along the bay closing early as tidal flooding is going to be a big concern. combo wind/rain will make traffic/bus routes really shitty later.

Even canceling after-school activities makes sense, just get everyone home.

With that said, I had numerous parents at the dance studio last night asking wtf was coming that would be so bad to close schools early lol
