Several western and central locations recorded their highest pressure readings on record around 1/9-1/10,1962.

Makes me wonder: what temp would it take to break the all-time record low max in some of the big east coast cities?

Select records (all-time lowest maximum temperatures):

Albany: -8°, 12/20/1942 and 2/15/1943 (both in the same winter!)

Atlanta: 7°, 2/13/1899

Boston: 2°, 12/30/1917

Charleston, SC: 20°, 12/23/1989

Chicago: -11°, 12/24/1983 and 1/18/1994

Cleveland: -5°, 2/9/1899 and 1/20/1985

Detroit: -4°, 1/19/1994

Harrisburg: -1°, 1/19/1994

Indianapolis: -11°, 1/20/1985

Miami: 45°, 12/24/1989

Minneapolis: -20°, 1/15/1888

New York City: 2°, 12/30/1917

Philadelphia: 5°, 12/30/1880

Portland, ME: -4°, 2/5/1918

Pittsburgh: -3°, 2/9/1989 and 1/17/1982 and 1/19/1994

Providence: 1°, 2/5/1918

Raleigh: 10°, 2/13/1899

Richmond: 11°, 2/11/1899 and 2/12/1899

Washington: 4°, 2/10/1899

Worcester: -2°, 1/8/1968

The overnight lows in SE AZ were rather nippy as well with some below zero readings in Cochise County-see my rundown in the AZ temperature thread in the Western subforum. BTW a more logical comparison to temperatures WRT to record low maxima would be to compare locations at 35N latitude and below since that's where AZ and El Paso are located. To compare Boston's record low max to El Paso is ridiculous since Boston is at least 10 degrees latitude further North. I know, it's the old I-95 Corridor No Big Deal syndrome but for people not used to that kind of cold it IS a big deal and even more so to the Mexicans living in the shanty towns in Ciudad Juarez across the river from El Paso or for Central Americans from the Tropics trying to cross into Arizona right now.
