What makes it so unusual?

Given the amp'ed pattern and omega block, why not? As I noted earlier, "this is how do you it" this time of year. Look at May 9-10, 1977. Omega block just the same. And it does not have to be as amp'ed to do it either. Enter May 25-26, 1967. Same pattern, yet not as weenie Xtreme. MA/NH summaries for the storm attached. If this occurred today? CoastalWx would give new meaning to his line "VIOLENTLY BEAUTIFUL!"

Got 2.65" of rain this morning. Now at 8.63" for the month, currently the 3rd wettest May on record. The record is 9.05" in May 1995. With some more rain on the way through the upcoming week, might as well just go for broke. Top 5 Wettest Mays (DAY): 1. 9.05" - 1995 2. 9.01" - 1938 3. 8.63" - 2026 (as of 5/23) 4. 8.55" - 1989 5. 8.40" - 1990

0.98" here since Friday afternoon, and 2.0" total since Tuesday. Definitely an improvement, and spread out nicely as well. 51°F currently. -
HRRR and NAM bring 1-2” of rain to my backyard Sunday morning. Would be much appreciated if it happens.
-
Even for Sunday afternoon it appears that the rain will have moved to the east, something I talked about for days. Cloudy and cool but it should be ok to cook outside tomorrow. And Monday afternoon looks ok -- I don't know what Anthony is looking at if he thinks it's going to rain all day.

Not with kids in rec leagues or other activities! This weather in late May, during Memorial Day weekend, is just absolute trash and depression inducing.
-
Kind of figured that…but wasn’t completely sure. Thanks Freak for the info. Beautiful area.

In other newZZZZZZZZ that Wxwiz will be . So far this May, only 26 tornadoes have been confirmed, and w/ the pitiful pattern for the next week, not that many more should occur. The record for the least amount of tornadoes in May in the U.S. since 1985 is 121 set in 2012. So it appears we will break this record by far! Here are the records for each month. Sure, one can pick any year for a start time, but I chose 1985 since second half of the 80s had a significant spike down for total tornadoes, not unlike 2012-2016, so I am trying to include up/down cycles long-term w/o compromising total count caveats. * Lowest U.S. tornado counts by month (since 1985): January 1986/2003 0 July 2012 37 February 2010 1 August 2014 33 March 2015 11 September 2009 8 April 1987 20 October 1987 1 May 2012 121 November 2009 3 June 1988 63 December 2003 1 So where is this good news in the MSM? This is a significant record. But doesn't fit the "end of days" wx/climate narrative. They are focused on speculation/conjecture instead of *facts*, like this: https://www.ktvq.com/news/montana-ag-network/massive-northeast-montana-dust-storm-raises-fears-of-another-dust-bowl-era What I find interesting is 7 months had their least on record 2009-15. And this occurred w/ tornado detection/documentation being much better than decades prior. So again, good news for society as a whole, but ignored.

Yes, but we do need the rain, and many in NYC-SDF-OKC-HOU-MSY-JAX outlined zone are get it good, and will continue.

This is just leftover snow. You can hike all around and go wherever you want. The Toll Road was open but that’s it. There are no services at a closed ski area on leased state land. You can go wander around but if something happens you need to call 911, not the ski area. It’s considered backcountry. These are just folks who saw snow and were drawn to it.

49 degrees…on Memorial Day weekend with rain at 10:30 pm.… blows chow!

.6” on the day, solid steady rain most of the afternoon. Another round of steady rain moving in that should most of the night. Expecting to finish well over an inch. 24 hour wundermap precip reports(personal weather stations) sure not looking like a miss for most. Excited to see the cocorahs reports tomorrow morning. -
Were they charged? Or was it part of the hotel package?

Saw a couple families sledding today. Lugged the light plastic sleds up and were taking turns going sledding down the terrain park piles. Others just sliding around on their shoes. The remaining snow was an attraction for the holiday weekend.

Keep it like this

Monday doesn't look terrible

A rare miss too. MRX still has no tornado warnings this year. They should have had one here.
