2024-2025 La Nina
Stormchaserchuck1 replied to George001's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Well the La Nina is officially over now.. this latest Kelvin wave neutralizing the subsurface is what did it. It's interesting that when this happens, and the SOI spikes negative is when we will finally see a strong -PNA in the N. Pacific (5-21 to 5-25) -
There was one from New Hyde Park that was crazy. I can't find it but i found a few more.

2023-4 cannot be unpinned. Its destiny is to be pinned for eternity because it did everything it wasn’t supposed to do and thus it’s important we learn from our mistakes.

NorthArlington101 started following Drought Buster From The Gulf?

2024-2025 La Nina

lol at this one getting unpinned before the 2023-24 thread. 2011 was a record wet August and September and 2013 was a record wet summer. Plus, that summer pretty much ended in late July. - Today

Friday is certainly interesting. To start, several models show some sort of early morning MCS. The NAM in particular has some steep lapse rates, which likely explains the signals for big hail. I'm not sure what the trigger would be for afternoon storms to form and take advantage of some positive factors, but it's definitely worth tracking.

Photo for proof, though right now I'm sure the trail is now unable to be traveled on as its in the PDS warning.

I'm dying laughing. That's not what I meant to say at all. Made a quick post while working. But now that I'm reading it I'm hysterical. Best laugh all day!

I've never seen anything like this happen here. It's pouring again. 4.7"

The videos from the Ellicott City flooding several years ago definitely made me realize how serious a flash flood can get.

lol that’s wild. Looks like an atmospheric river on radar

2010 - 2012 were some wild times around here. There was that ridiculously wet mid-March 2010 where LI lost as many trees as in a hurricane due to the ground being so saturated, then Irene, then Sandy. All interspersed with crazy snowstorms and then 100 degree heat, including I think a 106 in Newark. Oh yeah, a decent earthquake too. Am I missing anything? Fun times if you like this sort of thing, not sure if it applies to anyone here lol.

Some unheard of values for our region showing up on some of the 00z NAM soundings re SHIP... seeing 2.5 to 3.5 values. Supercell composite lights up quickly Friday afternoon and evening... and lots of significant hail showing up in the SARS, especially some 2" to 4" ones June 9 1990 00z IAD 3.50" is one of them @high risk @Kmlwx @Eskimo Joe

1.94 inches here. Few spots vert close by have had almost 2.5 inches. That may be more convective rain firing and headed for Loudoun. Not super organized yet.

Over 4.5" and the radar returns south keep blossoming. If these continue to train, things are going to get really serious somewhere.

Over 1.6”

The northern Queens hailstorm I remember from the 90s had very small hailstones (hail pebbles?) but they fell for several hours and accumulated up to a foot, that's why snow plows were required.

Was going to take some trash out to the curb as pick up is tomorrow and I put the can out already. Opened the garage and saw it was pouring again. The garage itself feels like a wet sauna. Decided that it can wait till tomorrow morning. The cell over me seems to keep back building so thinking will get close to the 2” mark soon. Backyard station currently showing 1.89"

Don't jinx yourself, one day you'll be hit by a megaicycryometeor!!

Whatever, we know why you go on hikes.

west Texas climate is much better with drier heat. My first step in geoengineering would be to get rid of the Gulf of Mexico. Or build a mountain range on the gulf coast to cut off all that humidity.

Ravens S Ar'Darius Washington tore an Achilles during conditioning https://sports.yahoo.com/article/ravens-ardarius-washington-tore-achilles-230342415.html Ravens bad luck with injuries in the secondary continues, even in the off season. Starks will likely be a starter as a rookie.

That must have been a north shore event. I know there was a hail event in northern Queens years ago that required plowing to remove.
