I wish I was there to do some hiking to some of the those amazing waterfalls on the island in the "rain forest" type of areas. I was there a few years ago and we had some showers in those places but nothing like what the island is getting now.

Yeah. Some of the waterfalls that are usually there were basically nonexistent from the lack of rain this year.

I need to do more hikes. Been here for about 4 months and only did one hike. I have until 2019 to explore the islands. :D

I heard late September is a good time to get plants in the ground.

91/79= 107+

Showers starting to pop in the Piedmont east to near Pittsboro.

Sept would be a good time for sure, but these perennials wont be around in Sept Im sure. Getting some good deals on them as the nurseries are trying to clear them out.

going to head out now and plant. Keeping an eye on those storms marching down US 64 from Siler City-Pittsboro making its way towards Apex and Jordan Lake.

It is gorgeous out there on that island. Glad you seem to be doing well out there too. Which hike have you done so far?

Just had a quarter inch of rain and a 14º drop in temps.

First batch went into Northern Harnnett county and into Johnston county. Missed us here. But it did bring clouds in to block the sun. Went out to plant and it didnt matter there was no sun. It still is way humid out there. Even had chills while working out there near the end of time outside. That was weird

We will have to see if those storms in SW VA stay together and hit the Triad and Triangle area tonight

FYI, I'm pretty sure the location of our Peach Farm, (the intersection of pickens/oconee/anderson counties in SC), has been the driest place east of the Mississippi River over the last 65 days.

For the last 65 days, we've received 1.42 inches of rain. The highest single day rainfall total during that 65 day period was .44 inches on June 30th. We have received .31 inches for the month of July. You can drive a mile or two in any direction and all of those places have received substantially more rainfall this summer.

The grass and pastures are completely dead and burnt to a crisp. Even large oak trees are starting to show signs of severe stress from drought.

thats pretty much what I did. Never had that happen before to me. I put away my tools and cleaned up the yard and went inside and drank some water and took a shower. Guess i cant handle the real heat :(

Had a storm fire up over us, it even rained for 5 mins.....still today was one of the worst days heat wise I can remember, being outside was like having a hot wet towel wrapped around your body.....even though the high was 97 it was much worse than when we actually get 100-105 real air temps as those are always dryer and the heat index is the same or even a bit lower than the air temp. Here is the damage today its close to record setting for us at least as far as heat index goes I cant remember seeing 119 before at PGV.

Well, the forecast is calling for a high of 98 today. Don't know if we'll make it or not. Prefer not, though. Gonna be miserable enough as it is.

Was thinking about mowing the lawn after work this evening so it'll be done before we head to the OBX tomorrow, but if it is going to get that hot I'm thinking it will just have to wait.
