It's going to be a terrible day for folks in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. Already reports of for damage in northern Alabama. And schools in al are letting out early to give folks time to prepare.

Yep. We are closing our Alabama facility and sending everyone home at noon. Thier kids were sent home anyway so no need for a parent to be at work worrying. Too many bad memories from last year.

0.25" rain from light storms this morning. Local TV mets are hyping this event for my area.

Warm front is just about to pass through

This is the strangest potential severe day I've seen since May of 1985. The warm sector is taking forever to get here. You know the severe is coming but the current conditions outside don't telegraph it...still cold with east wind, but the sun broke through about 30 minutes ago. I'm losing the daytime heating effect quickly.

AN ADDITIONAL TORNADO WATCH WILL BE NEEDED EAST OF WW 58... PROBABLY

BEFORE 22Z...ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF EASTERN KENTUCKY AND SOUTHEAST

OHIO INTO WEST VIRGINIA.

URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED

TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 62

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

420 PM EST FRI MAR 2 2012

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

EASTERN KENTUCKY

SOUTHEAST OHIO

WESTERN VIRGINIA

WESTERN AND CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA

EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON FROM 420 PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST.

..THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION

DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...

THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE

POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75 STATUTE

MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 70 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF

JACKSON KENTUCKY TO 25 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF PARKERSBURG WEST

VIRGINIA. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU2).

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR

TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH

AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR

THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS

AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 57...WW 58...WW 59...WW

DISCUSSION...MULTIPLE SUPERCELLS WITH A HISTORY OF TORNADOES OVER

CNTRL KY ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD EWD INTO THE WATCH AREA LATE THIS

AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT WITHIN EXPANDING WARM SECTOR OF INTENSIFYING

EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONE. THOUGH REGION WILL REMAIN ON THE ERN

ENVELOPE OF STRONGER INSTABILITY...THE PRESENCE OF VERY STRONG

VERTICAL SHEAR AND ESTABLISHED SUPERCELL STRUCTURES INDICATES A HIGH

LIKELIHOOD FOR SIGNIFICANT TORNADOES. SOME CONSOLIDATION OF

NRN-MOST SUPERCELLS INTO A FAST-MOVING BOW ECHO SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE

WHICH WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCE THE POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD

DAMAGING WINDS. LARGE HAIL WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY SUSTAINED

SUPERCELLS.

You referencing 5/31/85? I was living just north of Pittsburgh on the OH/PA border. We had an F3 roll through and level a shopping center. Killed 9 and injured over 150 as it rolled through 2 counties. Same system also spawned PA's only F5 twister. One of the deadliest weather events in PA history for sure. Stay safe!

Yep, I was in in the middle of it living in the Niles/Warren area at the time. The F-5 through Niles missed my appartment by less than a half mile.

I don't like the track of those cells in eastern KY. It didn't get a chance to warm up here so probably that will tone them down a bit as they get closer. About an hour away...

Just getting caught up on the last hour in the thread on the main forum. Looks like a rough night coming down your way. Hope the bad stuff stays out of WV.

It'll be over for me in about 30-45 minutes...west lib cell is passing to my south....lightning and thundering now...another to the north. There is one behind the west lib cell just to the north of its track that may affect me.

Forbes said about 10 minutes ago that the severe threat might "brush the southern suburbs of DC" later on.

Wedge of cool, stable air is still pretty entrenched per recent mesoscale discussions. Perhaps farrrr southern suburbs but we shall see I guess.
