Looking forward to a mid-morning view into the winter wonderland via Skype with relatives up in Bloomington, MN. We contemplated driving up last night and spending the weekend up there. It would have been good family time but definitely a snow chase nonetheless.

Minny looks good on Skype - looked like half a foot of white gold in Bloomington. Branches weighted down and roads covered. No plowing yet on their street.

Heavy snow in the last thirty minutes reported at the airport. Looks like she's really cranking now. A Gopher home game this weekend at TCF would have been great to watch. 11 a.m. start would have lined up perfectly.

Dad just called and said snowing to beat the band for the last 4 hrs at the hotel right on the Bay in Ashland but its having a hard time piling up. He is at the hunting land about 3 miles south west right now and estimates 4" of the most sticky weenie snow flocked all over the pines. Been a while since we got snow while up hunting this early... Figures I'm not up there..

I like snowstorms, not snow, if that makes sense. I'd love to get 30 inches of blinding snow and have it melt the next day.

10" amounts coming in from the southern metro now too.

Hey Beau! Thanks for commenting, I had tried to sign in on eastern a couple days ago just to see it had closed down...glad this is here to take its place. I would not have otherwise known.

Thundersnow, it did take a little time. I actually started it the evening before but fell asleep and finished after midnight. One thing I have leearned about weather blogging is it takes forever to process images, post them, etc.

As for the storm, it certainly did not disappoint. NAM really was the first model to hint at stronger cyclogenesis and a negatively tilted system wrapping a decent trowal and tracking farther west...even though its own track was all over the map. It did pretty well for the most part.

Pictures from WCCO...local tv station. Heavy wet stuff...looks like a number of large branches and small trees snapped with some downed power lines.

Very impressive early season snowstorm! Looks like the NAM takes the prize on this one. Definitely something to think about in coming weeks.

The heaviest band was relatively thin as one would expect for an early season snow, but it was very intense. D

Duluth is off to a great start to the winter season. Two major snowstorms in less than 3 weeks. Season total is already near 15"!:snowman:

Superior WI got rain in this most recent storm since it's right on the lake...the NWS in Duluth is up on the top of the bluffs...about 850' above the lake...they should do well. ;)

Ended with around 10 inches, though you wouldn't be able to tell we had that much by looking today. We didn't drop below freezing the entire storm and then only briefly hit freezing overnight, so there has been melting and compacting since the snow began.

I don't hunt, but I spend quite a bit of time in areas open to hunting. I've seen a few 2/3 point bucks this fall but not any more than that. And yeah the area in that picture and nearby does well with deer, waterfowl, pheasant, and turkey hunting. I think it does get a bit overhunted as it's one of the few large areas open to public hunting that is close to the metro. If there were trappers around(don't think there's much of that going on anymore), it'd do well for furs. Waterfowl has been around in decent numbers the past month as well.
