Central PA - Early/Mid December 2016

Recommended Posts

Starting a new thread since we're at 1400 posts on the old one and we're into a new month. QPF still looks pretty light with our Thursday night into Friday system. Timing is favorable however for accumulations from whatever we do get so I still think it's looking like something of the few inch variety (general 1-4" with best amounts in the west and higher elevations).

CTP most likely map:

Clipper system over the weekend looks like it lacks moisture as well but may give the west and central some light snow. Beginning Sunday and especially from Monday on it looks to significantly warm up.. with 60s quite likely for at least a few day stretch by mid-week. Models in the long range appear to take this general warm pattern right on through mid-month.

Huge wreck on 83N between 30 and Neeburytown. 15+ cars, road completely closed.

I absolutely hate running I-83. It's a joke of an interstate highway. Too much traffic, not enough travel lanes, nonexistent acceleration lanes on the get on ramps, etc. It's a disaster waiting to happen on a good weather day...

Yes! The entrance ramps are horrible, I've been driving for 34 years and I'm honestly scared getting on 83 in York heading south to Baltimore.

I usually run the passing lane through York in both directions, and I know it pisses people in cars off, but in my opinion, it's safer for everyone if I'm out there keeping away from the conflict of merging vehicles.

Perhaps PennDot should install signs requesting through traffic to keep left when traveling in the York area.

You ever driven in Texas, like on I-20, I-35 or I-10?

83 is the polar opposite. When we moved here and saw those 83 exit/on ramps THAT ARE SHARED my mind was blown. It's like PennDOT said, "Here's 50', mergers on/off good luck!"

I used to run all 48 states years ago. I loved driving in Texas. As for PA freeways, sometimes I'd love to meet up with the engineers/architects and ask them, "wtf were you thinking?"
