He is looking rough right now but the pressures were still low but winds had come up quite a bit, I wonder what if any him ragging out and weaking will do with the modeling....looks like he may end up going east or even south of east.....him weaking and or moving more east may shut off the moisture tap sooner..

It moves further east because it got too strong, now it moves east cause it's too weak.  Threads like this make you realize nobody knows anything and the reasons people give for things are way too simple to be the actual meteorological reasons for whats going on. When somebody figures it out, you'll probably need a PHD to understand it.

The deep trough/cutoff over the southeast U.S.; Joaquin; a connection between the two contributing some moisture to the extreme rainfall; and a trough to the north of Joaquin, associated with the remnant of Ida, which helped provide a path of the hurricane away from North America rather than getting pulled in by the trough

Moral of the story: basically pay no attention to any model except the euro. According to about 15 models Wednesday night, we were 72 hours away from a major hurricane hitting NC. The GFS had a wind gust in Raleigh of 115 MPH tomorrow morning... Yet the euro had it offshore 1000miles. Unreal.

From talk on TWC/WU show this week, there is supposed to be a major upgrade to the 'American model' in 2017. I would guess they were talking about the GFS. They avoided getting into the politics, but basically implied that it was the cost involved in the upgrade that is delaying it that long. They had a good discussion about the Euro vs the American models.

It would be a lot cheaper for the NWS to just buy a Euro subscription and be done with it.

Eh. The US government needs to have a world-class in-house model in case relations with the EU deteriorate to the point where they won't sell us access. It's unlikely in the short term, but stranger things have happened in the long-term.

Well, my comment was meant as sarcasm, but I'll take it a step further.  We get almost everything else from overseas, why not this.
