6.1 EQ in Northern California

Recommended Posts

Napa, CA the wine got rocked.

Edit: Down to a 6.0, looks much worse than the 2011 Virginia quake though.

Time of day and being rather rural limited the impact here..... Move thus baby south 50 miles and change it to an afternoon weekday commute and thus us a legit disaster.....the east Bay Area us ripe for the big one anytime....

Very disturbing damage for a 6.0 considering the area should be prepared for something a lot worse.

Also, 7.0 quake in Peru now didn't effect a populated area though.

For a 6.0? Lol.....do you realize that a quake this size pretty much anywhere else in the world is likely to do extreme damage? Most damage you see in California in these deals is superficial where whole buildings aren't condemned and can be repaired.....older reinforced masonry buildings do the worst.....can't upgrade everything....home damage is limited to peripherally attached features like awnings and deck covers or front door coverings.....

I suppose you could always be more prepared but all in all CA does a good job here I think.....

6.0 would do a lot more damage in many other parts of the world.

For the record, I felt it and it woke me up. It was a pretty long quake, and the shaking was fairly intense.
