There is a rare event unfolding in the GSP area tonight. Just look at the radar filling in and almost a comma head look to the precip shield! Isolated areas will have received 7-9 inches by morning, and that will be 24 hour totals. Outside tropical land falling systems, I imagine these are once in a decade type 24 hr totals, or maybe more rare!? Watching radar all day has been very interesting

Nice swath of nothingness in a narrow corridor in central NC. I know it'll fill in eventually. Gives me time to go pull the pine straw out of the garage gutter so it doesn't overflow when the heavy rain arrives. :D

We so don't need this rain lol.....although we have been getting all our rain in bunches with lots of 2-3" or better rain days the last month or so with lots of dry time in between.....we are far from dry and all ditches etc have not emptied in weeks so the ground water table is full so everything we get the next few days is gonna sit on top. My little lake I get on my property line with the neighbor will be in full force I bet by tomorrow.....

How the hell is it 66 degrees in the early afternoon in early August?  Amazing.  It hasn't even made it above 68 today yet.  I wonder what the record low maximum for today is?

The rain shields broke down last nice and it's been raining pretty good ever since.  Looks like we're well over 1" of rain now.

Loved this day.  2.23" of rain with a midnight high of 68.  Daytime high was 66.2.  Power went out for a couple of hours (and no backup batteries in the Davis console.. oops)  this morning so I had to adjust rain totals based on surrounding rain gauges.

High temp of 65.6 F today and a low temp of 62.0 F.  Rainfall since midnight has just passed the 1.5 inch mark.  Radar shows nothing overhead right now, nor has it for the last several hours, but it has not stopped raining today.  Steady light rain continues in the cool autumn summer air.

I love this summertime weather.  Here are the WNC temperature extremes for today, per Brad Panovich's Twitter feed:
