Thanks for all the well wishes!.....Hmmm NavarreDon. I might have to run with that. Mike it's a small world. I am very familiar with the area as I have vacationed there since 99. I lived in Ft Walton from 93-99 before moving to Asheville. Really amazing area down there. Agree about the storms down there. I will continue to post & maybe bring you guys some tropical weather fun. As I said above it's really tough to leave the Mnts. & I'm sure i will question myself when a big snow is ripping thru but, sometimes you just gotta follow your heart. Someone let Skip know I am coming down so we can meet. 85 keep up the good work. I will pm you if I have time to meet but things are rather hectic right now as you can imagine. Will start posting again when I get settled. Take Care Guys!

Don, was looking at some Weather Link data for that area.

For a station near the Beach: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/boggscooling/   Shows that about 32" of rain has fallen this season.

Another: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/pensacolasurf/  33"

However if you go just slightly inland: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/dblee50/  Almost 54" has fallen demonstrating rather dramatically the increase in storms as you move a few miles inland. This one: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/nb8s/  Almost 66"!

It isn't clear to me if they set the precip counter to start January 1 or say for the Spring or Summer..but either way..dramatic gradient near the beach.

For instance, looking at today's HRRR..you can see where the storm will be today..just to the North of Navarre and should drift towards the coast based on the wind profile although the HRRR suggests it will push North instead with the seabreeze.

Lowest I could find this morning in NC was 43 at this location in far NW NC: http://www.weatherlink.com/user/mountainman83/

Looks like the coldest spots in the UP of Michigan may have dipped to 32 degrees-a little nippy for this time of year even for them!

Wow 32 degrees in July! Well our low ended up being 47 cool degrees!

Seems like the steady rainfall has set in already. We have picked up .23 inches of rainfall from last night through this morning. It looks like we are going to se quite a bit if rainfall coming in and it looks to stay cool also.

Yeah its going to be a nasty weekend! Not used to this mid latitude cyclone type weather in summer.

Made a couple changes including going with Mr Burns handle. Still in Weaverville till the end of the month so I didn't change my location. Let me know what you think.

Edit: went ahead and changed location plus airport code to avoid confusion.

I'm honored.

Storm total thus far..over 5" in favored Southern Balsams and just over 2" in the Central Balsams. Very large differences between ridge top and valley locations during this event.

Just a few things about yesterday was Asheville set a daily rainfall record and also set a new max low high temp yesterday also. Don looks and sounds good! Mike amazing the rainfall totals. We're I am we have  picked up 1.83 inches of rainfall. Not to shabby but not 6 inches also. This has been an awsome week for the mountains with lows in the 40s and know some great rains this weekend.
