More cold and likely freezing temperatures in Piedmont and western North Carolina around April 3.

Don't rush it this year!

There have been a few times when cold shots 7-10 days out have not materialized or were not nearly as cold as projected that far out. This may be the case. But we will see. But still spring is here and there's a reason the last frost date down my way is Apr. 15th, anythings possible?

Thread says it all. Oh well 6 months of a few svr storms and I'm sure numerous 90 degree days to look forward to. I wouldn't mind spring so bad if I could skip July and August. Just flat out despise the dog days of summer. The only saving grace is by the time august rolls around at least football is starting back up. Tropics should be DOA this year. Just pray the El Niño is west based a not very strong. West based is the main thing to root for as summer into fall unfolds. All in all this was a pretty good winter IMO. To all those who whine all winter and love the heat enjoy!

Haven't been able to post recently with the two part time jobs and starting a new website and Facebook page with a couple of meteorologists and forecasters, but I personally am ready for spring.

It appears that the next five days will be below average (of course, with a few wet snowflakes possible here in the foothills). But finally I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. The models are hinting at a little warming trend over the next 6+ days, and CPC agrees right now. The question is how long does this remain. Winter has not wanted to give up this year, so maybe just maybe it is about time for it to finally relinquish its grip on the eastern United States.

Personally, I am ready to get back on the good ole golf course and practice up a little bit. I would like the Masters this year to be mild and not freezing like in 2007.

Hopefully, spring will really begin next week.

Do mets do long range outlooks for severe storms in spring like they do for winter?

Not really many do that like winter or tropical. Most are expecting quiet season once again, although it only take one bad tornado to ruin the year...

Seconded. Motion carried.

Whoa, there, CR!  I think Mr. Robert and his rules of order would conclude that no such motion has been carried.  A seconded motion only allows for discussion.  We then must have a vote before the motion is passed.  And, you have not yet convinced me to vote for this motion; so, I am currently a nay vote.

I request a one night continuance in order to properly prepare to meet your challenge.

Good afternoon, Calc.  Yesterday, you said that I wanted to skip the arraignment process and go directly to trial....Skip that and get a dismissal (anybody got a 411 on that quote? :) ).  So today, allow me to offer into evidence, Exhibit A:  A 4 panel chart showing the coldest H5 look I could find over the next 240 hours from 4 major global models.

The upper left is the 0z GFS at 240.  The upper right is the 6z GFS at 240.  The lower left is the 0z CMC at 108 and the lower right is the 0z Euro at 120.  In the coldest panels of each model for the next 10 days, there is no snow falling but temps are slightly below normal for portions of the SE.  It is possible to have below normal temps in the spring.

Finally, I'd like to offer into evidence Exhibit E, the March 2014 calendar, which clearly shows, by objective analysis, the current date in relation to the first day of spring, which is clearly in the rear view mirror.

Therefore, I must conclude that winter is indeed over.  And any attempt to prove otherwise is futile, cause it just aint true (another great movie).

The prosecution rests.

Looks rainy late this week, maybe thunder? Definitely a touch of spring! Cold rain , is that last tree you name real? If it is, I am unfamiliar with it and need to be enlightened!?

That last plant is just your common, everyday tulip. The name I threw on it is from yet another movie quote, Focker (there's your hint). :)

NC Final snow totals:

Yikes at the central NC snow hole south/east of Greensboro...

Yeah, I was thinking of what grade to give winter, and thought of a B, but that was just based on a curve compared to what RDU had the previous two winters. It's more like a C. The number of events we had made it seem more impressive than it really was, especially since we didn't have anything the last two winters. But we ended up about average, and a C is average. I guess I'll give it a C+ for effort. It really tried this winter, but the results were still average here.
