It's been pretty amazing watching the snow blow in. I live on a ridgeline that provides great views out to the south and west. Grandfather Mountain is 12 miles away as the crow flies, and it's gone from crystal clear to completely shrouded in the last 20 minutes.

I sure am going to miss this place.

You moving? I'll move in when you leave!

I graduate from App in December, so this is essentially the last winter up here for me. Then, it's off to some other institution of learning that will inevitably have worse scenery and weather than here. :(

But to stay on topic, current temp is 23.3 :P

Left Jonas Ridge, along the eastern escarpment, this morning and now back in Raleigh. The wind was howling last night. I don't have any equipment there but I'm guessing it had to be at least 50mph.

39 here, and every once in a while see a flurry or two go by...thought I was seeing things at first, but just came in again, and yes, it is flurries...tiny little bitty things.

I know you're happy, I'd be tickled with flurries today!
Temp down to 43 with serious wind.....brrrrr

Scattered clouds moved in causing me to not hit 40 today. It looks dark to my north-west. Most likely snow showers in the mountains already.

I think I actually stand a decent chance at some wind snow late tonight!

Very happy...wish I knew what the wind speed was...you can hear it howling at times through the trees. Temp is still steady at 39, but feels colder.

Off and on snow showers for me on the NE Plateau in Tennessee, big flakes flying one minute. Sun out the next. Looks like Eastern Kentucky is getting some amazingly heavy convective snow showers.

It is snowing east of the mountains.
Well, northern foothills along the sides of the mountains it is. I got a reading of about 35 degrees.

EDIT...Blacksburg just bumped Wilkes to 40% snow up to 1inch???? I seriously doubt it will be that bad.

Leading edge of secondary type 850 mb cold surge now crossing the west
with the coldest air aloft to arrive overnight and last into Tuesday
morning as the 500 mb trough pivots across the region. This combo with
better trajectories from the northwest and deeper cold air should set the
stage for good upslope overnight as model forecast radiosonde observations show quite a
bit of deep relative humidity. Appears best forcing will be over the northwest closer to
the core of coldest 850 mb air where prognosticated quantitative precipitation forecast is highest and
supportive of elevation warning criteria. However will be in the
middle of the left front of the upper jet across the region which in
conjunction with good dendritic growth will make for at least
adisory snowfall elsewhere western slopes and perhaps close to warning in
a few spots...mainly from Mercer city into Ashe and Watauga...near
the Tennessee border. Colder air aloft will also make for decent low level
instability per the low level setup with increasing northwest winds with
height great for banding formation which could lead to locally
higher totals in spots. However since thinking this wont be
widespread enough to prompt warnings elsewhere will hold off for now but
will extend the advisory east to cover Bath...Monroe and Wythe
counties given potential spillover of bands under the deep/strong northwest
flow aloft. Could also see some light accumulations out east of the
New River valley but moreso expecting flurries that could punch out
to the Piedmont through midnight as the Arctic push arrives. Thus upped
probability of precipitation a bit more over the west and extended chances farther east
tonight.

Flurries being reported in Mt. Airy now. Snow is definitely making its way outside of the mountains.

Temp: 29
Wind Chill: 18

It has been flurring very lightly all day but nothing to write home about. Meanwhile there have been some nice snow squalls in eastern Kentucky which have spilled over into SWVA north of here. If you look to the south there is blue sky but to the north it looks very ominous.

High nearly hit 43 here today, about 7 below avg. Temps starting to drop as the sun goes down, 38.1 now. Waiting on the real cold air to come rushing over the mountains and hit us tomorrow. I dont think we'll break 32, but it should be close.

Arctic boundary moved through about an hour ago. Temps starting to drop faster. Down to 37 with DP in single digits now. Also the clouds have developed nicely along the ridgeline of the Apps on the north end of my county near woody gap.
